The Sweetness At The Bottom Of The pie
The Sweetness At The Bottom Of The pie
- title: the sweetness at the bottom of the pie
- The story begins with a dead man which chilled up my back but also brought up the appetite of me continue reading. I took a guess after reading the beginning and thought it would be a serial killer story as the book we read last year, I hunt Killers. However, the majority of the book is a mystery isn't as scary as I expected. The ending is lovely as the title foreshadowed so there is no worries about having nightmares.
- Imagine you are a eleven-year-old girl who has a chemist in her heart, and the youngest one in your single-parent-family. (Your mother passed away). You are always locked in closets by your two older sisters, although you can find the way out every-time. One day, you found a dead jack snipe with a stamp stuck on its beak. Later that night, you heard a heated argument among your father and a stranger. The next morning, you found a almost dead man in your family's cucumber patch, and heard his last word "Vale", which means farewell in Latin. What is the connection between the argument you heard and the man in your patch? and what has it do with the dead jack snipe? those are the things that you might want to figure out through this book along with Flavia, the main character.
- Flavia: the major character in this book, a eleven-year-old girl, who has a chemist in her heart with a great amount of curiosity. I really like this character because she is like my exact copy. I would always like to figure mysteries out by myself pretending like a detective, and so is she. I like rideing bikes, and so is she, except she named her bike, Gladys.
- Horace: The man died in the de Luces' cucumber patch. Instead of saying like him, I would rather say I feel pity for him. He was very pale, tall and skinny. And he used to get beaten up. He was one time a friend of Colonel de Luce (the head of the house) when they joined the magic circle together.
- The author, Alan Bradley, told a mystery out in a kid's voice. That helps a lot for you to understand the main character, Flavia's feelings. Here is an example that is the most memorable one for me although it is at the very beginning of the book."I breathed heavily through my nose, fighting desperately to remain calm. I tried counting to ten on every intake of breath, and to eight as I released each one slowly into the darkness. "( Alan Bradley,1)
- The mystery is set in the 1950s. It happened in Bishop's Lacey, a small fictional village in the English countryside. The family was living in Buckshaw, a Georgian mansion. The house is now well into it's third century.
- I would recommend this book specially to mystery and detective story lovers. It has a great plot which continuously brings surprises to you. And you may enjoy being like a detective as you go through this book.
